Detailed Itinerary – 13 Days Uganda Rwanda Congo Safari

Day 1 | Arrival in Entebbe

On your arrival at Entebbe international Airport, you will be met by our representative and tourist guide who will meet and greet you. And then transfer you to your hotel. Overnight at Lake Heights Hotel

Day 2 | Lake Mburo National Park- Evening Game dive

Wake up early morning have breakfast then embark on your journey to Lake Mburo National park. You will have a stopover at the Equator and try out the experiment and the proceed to the lodge for lunch and after lunch you will rest and then embark on an evening Game drive were you will have the opportunity to see the Impalas, the Giraffes, Zebra, Elands, Waterbucks, Buffalos and many bird species. Head back to the lodge for lunch.

Day 3 | Long Horned Cattle Milking| Community Engagement & drive to Queen Elizabeth NP

Wake up early morning and then head to the Farm, with our local guide you will be showed the cows and told the story about them. The people in the region leave for cattle keep. You will take part in the milking of the cattle to get the milk that you will be having for your breakfast” so your breakfast depends on you milking skills lol”. After the milking you will be taken to a special room were the milk is stored and also chanted in to ghee. You will have a lot to learn on this local community encounter. After that head for breakfast then embark on your journey to Queen Elizabeth National park from Entebbe. You will have a stopover at the Equator and try out the experiment and the proceed to Mbarara town where you will have lunch. After lunch continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Set on the floor of the Rift Valley, with the (occasionally visible peaks of the) Rwenzori Mountains behind you. The landscape of northern Queen Elizabeth comprises dozens of ancient craters carved into gentle rolling hills. The Kazinga Channel lies in central Queen Elizabeth, its banks fertile with large mammals such as hippo, elephant and buffalo and over 600 bird species, more than any other national park in Uganda.

Day 4 | Early morning Game drive and Boat trip

Start your day early with a 6 o’clock coffee or tea wake-up call, ready for your early morning game drive. Make sure to ask the hotel staff for a packed breakfast that morning. A popular route for the game drive is the Kasenyi sector, well-known for its lions that prey on Queen Elizabeth’s large population of Uganda Kob (antelope). If you are very lucky, you may spot a Giant Forest Hog, Africa’s largest pig. Keep your eyes peeled to spot an elusive leopard After your Game drive, you will head back to the lodge for a few hours relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, you will take a boat for a water safari on the Kazinga Channel at Mweya that connects the two lakes of Edward and George. This is likely to be a big highlight of your trip! The expert Uganda Wildlife Authority guides will identify many of the Channel’s 100 bird species and you’re likely to see African Skimmers, Great White Pelicans, Spoonbill and a number of Bee-eater species. Hippos wallow at the edge of the water, huge Nile crocodiles bask in the sun and elephants come down to drink. The Kazinga Channel boat ride is a brilliant opportunity to take some close-up wildlife shots.

Day 5 | Chimpanzee trekking

Wake up early morning for breakfast then drive to Kalinzo forest headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking briefing, embark on your chimpanzee trekking. Head back to the lodge for lunch and relax at your lodge.

Day 6| Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable

Today wake up early morning, have breakfast and then your guide will drive you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Home to the Mountain Gorillas.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

Wake up very early in the morning for Gorilla tracking and have a cup of coffee to warm you up, you will request for your packed lunch at the lunch and the driver guide will give you 1 0r 2 bottles of mineral water.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site and one of the richest biological and botanical regions in the world. The forest covers an area of 331 km² at the south-western edge of the western Rift Valley. Bwindi’s most-revered species are the approximately 400 wild Mountain Gorillas (2011 census) that make up half of the world population of these gentle apes. You will report for registration at the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger station by 8 AM. After a briefing by the rangers, your gorilla trek will start. The trek usually takes between three and six hours so a reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a strong pair of walking boots or shoes.

Day 8| Transfer to the Uganda- Rwanda Boarder

Wake up early morning have breakfast then transfer to Rwanda. You will go through border formalities then cross the Uganda-Rwanda Cyanika border and proceed to Gishenyi. Along the way you will visit the twin lakes lake Burela and Mulondo. With lunch en-route you will proceed to the hotel and spend the rest of the day resting as you prepare for you kayaking the next day.

Day 9| Half day Kayaking

Wake up in the morning for breakfast, then embark for you kayaking activitiy on lake Kivu. Paddling out onto Lake Kivu we find a picturesque coastline where traditional fishing boats ply the azure waters and lush, verdant hills reach up around us. Go fast or enjoy a gentle pace whist enjoying the silence of the open water and watch for the many birds that dart in and out of bushes along the shoreline. Head back to lodge and relax.

Day 10| Transfer to Congo- Hike to Nyiragongo Crater

Leave your Lodge at 06.00am head to the Congo border, take part in the border formalities and then head to Kibati by 08:00am, the main base for the hike to the Mount Nyiragongo one of the active volcanoes. Arriving at Kibati ranger station, you will get a briefing and by 10:00 am you will start hiking, you can get porters to carry your luggage. Nyiragongo is 3,470m and it takes between 5 to 6 hrs to get to the top because of the magma Nyiragongo Volcano is located in the east of Congo, at around 19kms from Goma town. It is the most active volcano in the world. In 1997 and 2002, flows of lava broke out from cracks in the slopes. They covered 17kms to Goma in just a few minutes, killed dozens of people, and left hundreds of thousands homeless. The eruption temporarily drained the lava lake in the summit crater; volcanic gas suffocated heather forest on the upper slopes. Now the forest is recovering, and the wildlife is coming back. The climb takes 4 to 5 hours; there are a lot of rare birds and small mammals along the trail.

Day 11 – Transfer to Kigali

Descent from the Nyiragongo – Transfer to Kigali, Early morning, you retrace your steps down the volcano and to the starting point which takes around 3 hours. Drive back to Kigali city with lunch enroute.

Day 12: City tour Kigali-Local community Encounters

Peacefully nestled along picturesque hilltops, Kigali is a thriving African city immediately notable for its cleanliness, orderliness, and hospitality. Kigali is a great place to begin or end any Rwanda journey, as it’s conveniently located in the geographic center of the country. The city is clean and safe, with extremely welcoming people. Travelers will enjoy exploring the great cultural activities – including several award winning museums, burgeoning music scene, and some of East Africa’s most memorable dining experiences.

This tour will take you to the following sites

1. KIGALI GENOCIDE MEMORIAL CENTRE:

The Kigali Memorial exists as a permanent memorial to those who became victim to the genocide in 1994. It deals with a topic of international importance, with far-reaching significance, and is designed to engage and challenge an international visitor base. Here you will be able to visit the three permanent exhibitions, the largest of which documents the genocide in 1994 and pay tribute to the victims of the genocide. Campaign Against Genocide Museum H.E Paul Kagame opened this campaign against Genocide Museum officially on 13th December 2017. CAG Museum is built in the Parliamentary building which was once known as Conseil National de Development because this building hosted the Rwandan Patriotic Front politicians and the 600 man protection force (3BN) from 28th December 1993 as they were in the preparations for the installation of Broad Based Transitional Government and the National Transitional Assembly and these 600 man protection force the (3BN) were the ones given the order first on 07/04/1994 by the RPA Chairman of High Command
Major General Paul Kagame to break out from their initial positions defend themselves and rescue victims of Genocide in their vicinity when campaign against Genocide began CAG Museum depicts in details how the Campaign Against Genocide Plan was executed by RPF/A following the withdrawal of UN troops leaving the targeted Tutsi under the mercy of the Genocidaires and how only the RPF/A forces who were in the war of liberation took the unilateral decision to stop Genocide, Rescue victims of Genocide and defeat the Genocidal forces. This CAG Museum also has its outer part comprised of monuments including that of the 12.7mm Machine Gun that helped in containing the advancing genocidal forces.

2. NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM-KIGALI

Also known as ‘Kandt House’, it is approximately 10 km from Kigali International Airport, this Museum is dedicated to Dr. Richard Kandt a German doctor and explorer who embarked on an exploration of Rwanda in 1897, searching for the source of the Nile River. The Natural History Museum aims at explaining the richness of Rwanda’s Nature. The idea being that it is only through the knowledge of the nature we live in that our behavior and understanding will change. This museum showcases many specimens and replica of the natural wonders of the country. You will break off for lunch Hotel Des Mille Collines. ”Hotel Rwanda” and later you will proceed to Kimironko market.

3. KIMIRONKO MARKET:

Kimironko market is one of the largest local markets in Kigali, where you will meet our local vegetable vendors and behold the succulent fruit and vegetables and try out your bargaining power at food shopping in Kigali. Here you will get the opportunity to get a feeling of how an African market operates. Thereafter, you will conclude the city tour with a visit to “Gahaya Gifted Hands”, a place where art and design have.
